Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Perform alarm and access monitoring, tracing access patterns, programming, assigning or removing user permissions, updating databases, remotely opening and securing doors during routine and emergency operations and generating a variety of reports as needed.
Assess on-scene behavior and determine when it is appropriate to dispatch law enforcement or other personnel to investigate.
Responsible for responding to alarm systems monitoring fire, access, intrusion, duress/panic, medical emergencies, psychiatric emergencies, medical assist teams, etc.; and emergency digital paging system.
Maintain radio/alarm activity records/logs to include dates, times, and results of communications and activities and prepares completed reports.
Implement policies, procedures, and methods for identifying and protecting information, personnel, property, facilities, operations, or material.
Operate an established vehicle registration and visitor management program and parking registration and/or photo identification equipment.
Issue and retrieve government issued keys and/or identification cards.
Monitor and receive routine and emergency calls from a variety of sources that need police, fire, medical or other emergency services.
Receive and process emergency calls, maintains contact with law enforcement units on assignment, maintains status and location of Police Officers and coordinates communication between agencies as needed.
Monitor and direct responses to security and life safety communications, radio dispatches, telephone calls, and other emergency communication circuits.
Coordinate with various federal, state and local law enforcement officials for coordination of emergency situations.
Enter, update and retrieve information from a variety of computer systems and sensitive databases.
Use the VA Police Software to research information, complete reports and logs, vehicle registrations, etc.
Compile and prepare reports related to events occurring in the operation of the police control center for dissemination of the completed products to various management officials.
Coordinate warrant confirmations and transports with outside agencies.
Coordinate health and welfare checks with outside law enforcement agencies.
Complete vehicle registration tasks and issues decals and permits as authorized by policy.
Work Schedule: You will be required to work days/nights, weekends, and holidays. Required to work shift work to include 8-hour, 10-hour, and 12-hour shifts depending on the staffing needs and will rotate in a fair and equitable manner.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/23/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
For this GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at GS-04.

GS-05 Level:
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: (In addition to meeting Time and Grade) You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: utilize First Responder terminology, automation software (examples; Police data base software and Excel, spreadsheets and databases); and provide Police and emergency response work. (must be in resume) OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years above high school education. (Transcript required). OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond .

Physical Requirements: The work is typically sedentary in nature. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Working on off-tours, rotating shifts or overtime may be required.
