This Motor Vehicle Operator position is located at the Kansas City VA Medical Center (KCVAMC) in the Veterans Transportation Service under the Business Operations Service (BOS) Line.

Duties

This position will transport patients to and from their appointments, provide shuttle service in the parking lot, will transport patients to and from private residences and travel to and from the main medical facility to the Honor Annex Clinic located at 4251 Northern Ave, Kansas City, MO 64133. NOTE: POSSESSION OF A VALID CLASS C (or higher) STATE COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE, WITH A PASSENGER ENDORSEMENT, IS REQUIRED. The work consists primarily of operating assorted motor vehicles for transportation of patients both on-station and in the community. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: Operates gasoline or diesel vehicles, in patient passenger shuttle vans. Manages established schedules of patient transportation for efficient operation of travel section and coordinate with departments and other medical centers for reliable patient transportation. Performs operator-level maintenance on all vehicles and equipment operated, including checking and maintaining windshield wipers, belts, hoses, tire pressure, oil level, fuel level, and other fluid levels. Completes documentation, including work order completion, vehicle trip logs, and documentation associated with transportation of patients into the community. Maintains cleanliness of the vehicle and assisting grounds crew when patient transport schedules are heavy and offer no break for extended periods. Observes all safety regulations, reporting any patient complaints, accidents, equipment malfunction, or anything that affects patient, visitor or employee safety and comply with OSHA standards, guidelines and codes. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 10:00am to 6:30pm, 7:00am to 3:30pm, or a different tour of duty to be discussed during the interview.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), Use of fingers, Both hands required, Both legs required, Operation of truck or motor vehicle, Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, Both eyes required, Depth perception, Ability to distinguish basic colors, Hearing (aid permitted).PHYSICAL EFFORT: You will be required to lift moderate to heavy items on a daily basis, such as wheelchair patients, machinery, mail bags, and medical center supplies. Frequent bending and lifting on a daily basis is required on wheelchair trips. Sitting and driving in a car, van or truck for long periods of time (up to 8 hours) or long distances is also required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Drives outside in all kinds of weather conditions in all types of traffic at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems. Outside work may involve extreme cold or hot working conditions as well as rain, snow, and ice. There will be constant noise, dust, fumes, smoke, and gases present and work may entail slippery or uneven walking surfaces, as well as moving objects or other vehicles. Exposed to dirt and fumes, and the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle.
