This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), located at the Gerald R. Ford Museum in Grand Rapids, which is the presidential museum and burial place of Gerald Ford, the 38th president of the United States, and his wife Betty Ford. This position reports directly to the Director of the Library, and is responsible for researching, assembling, writing, and disseminating sensitive, critical or complex information for external publics on a wide variety of subjects.
Duties
As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:
Establish and maintain working relationships with members of media outlets serving members of major media outlets, whose coverage of the Presidential Library's programs and positions reach national audiences.
Arrange media coverage to publicize the Presidential Library's programs and activities.
Survey physical location where program or event is to take place.
Manage social media accounts and website of the Library and Museum.
Develop special programs and/or special events to accompany exhibits and educational programs.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-9 grade level in the federal service or equivalent private sector, that is directly related to the position as listed above and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position must include:
Creating content for and managing one or more social media accounts for an Agency or other organization of a similar size with a regional or national following; AND
Preparing official statements for release to the press; AND
Writing responses to internal and public inquiries, for supervisor approval, on subjects of importance to an organization for distribution to a wide audience; AND
Maintaining and updating a website for a large organization, including tasks such as adding content, designing new sub-pages of a website and/or web design.
OR
EDUCATION: You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.
OR
COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F):
For the GS-11, you must have been at the GS-09level for 52 weeks.
