This position is located in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising, in the Natural and Cultural Resources Division.
Duties
The biologist is engaged in the study, inventory, monitoring, restoration, and management of a broad range of natural resources. Some of the duties include:
Develop and prepare major portions of resource management plans.
Develop and maintains working relationships with related groups and individuals, agencies, and the public in order to encourage and facilitate cooperative regional management strategies.
Prepare environmental assessments (EAs) for projects in compliance with the National
Environmental Policy Act.
Coordinates the park's natural resources strategies and programs on park lands for the purpose of achieving broad ecosystem protection and preventing human impacts.
Identify research needs, prepare proposals, and provide oversight for projects.
This position will supervise 20% or less of the time.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount qualified specialized experience.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
For 0401 Series: Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements listed above, you must meet the following requirements.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Examples of specialized experience include: Independently carry out ecological or biological studies following established protocols; perform established, standardized test and analyses on a broad range of biological samples; conduct monitoring and restoration projects of a wide range of natural resources; record, compile, and organize data; develop written reports using computer-based technology such as geographic information systems (GIS).

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least three (3) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph. D. degree or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited educational institution concentrated in a field that is directly related to the work of this position, such as, in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position. You must include transcripts with your application materials.

Combination of education and experience: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include hours per week worked and must include transcripts.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
