You will serve as a Meteorological Technician in the the Point Mugu Sea Range Department and in the Sea Range Geophysics Branch of NAVAIRWARCENWPNDIV POINT MUGU.

Duties

You will provide complex operational weather support to DoD customers. You will determine the Branch electronic, cybersecurity and communication network support required, obtaining the necessary project technical data to implement this support, and providing the interface with Range Systems to provide this support. You will provide technical guidance and instructions to lower graded technical employees. You will provide ground station, upper air systems, airborne systems and at-sea systems data collection, data networking, data transport, data visualization and data archiving services at Point Mugu and SNI. You will observe, encode, record, analyze, disseminate, and evaluate weather observations. You will lead the administration of field operations in areas such as development of operating procedures, environmental reporting, sub-contractor oversight, field support, and inventory. You will serve as the Lead for Directed Energy Atmospheric Systems, designing, deploying and operating complex sensors collecting aerosol extinction, optical turbulence and molecular absorption data required for live-fire TE of high-energy LASERs. You will oversee the Contract, execution, analysis and reporting for the Geophysics Branch, using the main Range services contract as the Functional Support (FS) lead and the Functional Area Expert (FAE).

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate duties related to the following: 1) Applying technical electronics methods, techniques, procedures, and policies to effectively plan, organize, and execute system development projects, addressing both design and operational challenges; 2) Providing expertise in atmospheric and oceanographic data collection and analysis across a wide range of responsibilities; 3) Modifying standard practices and adapting equipment or techniques to solve a variety of problems; 4) Utilizing test equipment to set up and evaluate weather data collection systems.
