Duties
Duties of the IT Specialist (SYSADMIN) at the full performance level GS-11 include:
Optimizes the functionality of systems. Maintains systems integrity and availability, anticipating likely capacity or configuration problems and initiating corrective or preventative actions. Diagnoses and recovers failed systems.
Consults with customers to identify priorities and best approaches for integrating systems administration requirements into daily operations.
Researches options for problem resolution and recommendations.
Presents in writing or orally to audiences within and external to the organization, identifying priorities and barriers to project accomplishment.
Qualifications
GS-07: To qualify for the GS-07 grade level based on experience, your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in Federal service AND the competencies listed below, OR superior academic achievement; OR, one full year of graduate level education in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
Competencies: Your resume must reflect experience in each of the four following competencies:
1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgement to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
The superior academic achievement provision is to be used to determine eligibility for applicable GS-07 level positions of persons who have completed (or expect to complete within 9 months) all the requirements for bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a qualifying grade point average (GPA), class standing, or honors society. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education
This vacancy announcement allows substituting education for experience at the GS-07 grade level. You must submit a copy of college transcript(s) (unofficial copy is acceptable) to support claimed education if substituting education for experience. Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred. A typed list of courses, grades, semester/quarter hours, GPA, etc. will not be accepted. Non-submission may result in being rated not qualified for the position.
