This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until December 29, 2023. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be October 27, 2023, with subsequent cut-off dates on the 1st of each month. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.
Duties
This position is located at New Jersey Health Care System, East Orange VA campus for the Facility Management service. The position follows general instructions to perform tasks that require prior work experience or training, and some degree of manual skill and physical labor in carrying out Laborer tasks.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
Performs a variety of tasks such tasks include but are not limited to loads and unloads trucks and other conveyances;
Opens heavy boxes and crates;
Stock salt, cement, and sand bags for storage; moves, assembles, disassembles, and arranges furniture and clinical equipment when moving and relocating offices and clinical services;
Tasks require very heavy physical effort such as carrying and lifting, bending, and pushing;
Must be familiar with using of common hand tools and heavy power equipment for snow removal;
Use snow shovels, snow blowers, large power tillers;
Perform limited roads maintenance work using concrete, gravel, and/or asphalt to fill;
Level holes in damaged roads cuts and clears trees and brush along roads and fences using an axes or chain saws);
Empty trash receptacles and clean up grounds throughout facility; and
Occasion may need to be able to operate a forklift to handle extreme heavy lifting and carrying objects.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Laborer exert very heavy physical effort such as frequent lifting and moving objects weighing 50 pounds or more (operating heavy power mowers on grades or pushing wheelbarrow loads of cement, furniture, sandbags, ice melt, office supplies etc.) Other physical effort regularly involves walking, bending, stooping, reaching, standing for long periods of time, and pushing heavy items on carts or dollies.
Work may be performed indoors or outdoors. While working outdoors the employee may be exposed to all kinds of weather conditions including rain, snow, heat, and cold. Indoors the employee may be exposed to drafts, noise, and dust. The work involves the chance of incurring serious injuries.:
