THIS IS A NORTH DAKOTA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This ND National Guard position is for a WELDER, Position Description Number D1215000 and is part of the ND CSMS, National Guard.

Duties

As a Welder the primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of welding in support of maintenance activities. Performs welding duties using electric, acetylene, and/or inert gas shielded welding processes, pre-heating, brazing, head welding, tack welding, flame cutting, pressure welding, and heat treating. Uses templates, jigs, blueprints, and other guides to repair, modify, or fabricate metal items including repair of light or intricately made mechanical parts, which must fit in assemblies where close tolerances are required. Brazes dissimilar metals; flame cuts metal to size for fabrication, using regular welding equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints and sketches. Lays out, positions, and clamps work; selects type of rod and size of tip to accomplish weld.

Requirements

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the ND National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the ND National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the ND National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

  • Participation in direct deposition is mandatory.

  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Must have a valid driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

Qualifications

MILITARY GRADES: Enlisted and Warrent Officers (WO1 and below) QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training that has provided the candidate with the basic knowledge of welding processes. Must have knowledge of technical orders, blueprints, and specifications. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at 18 months experience or training 1) demonstrating the application of a variety of electric resistance welding processes and equipment; 2) experience in using accepted trade methods and a variety of manual welding processes to weld all types of commonly used metals in various shapes, sizes, and thicknesses; 3) experience using a wider range of metal welding processes to make more difficult welds meeting close tolerance, strength, and other requirements. These welds may be in hard-to-reach places; 4) experience which allows the welder to devise special jigs and fixtures to hold the parts to be welded; 5) experience which demonstrates knowledge of several related trade procedures; 6)experience which enables the lay out and planning of work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders. You must also possess the experience, training or education to support your claim for the competency statements listed within the assessment questionnaire.
