The VA Northeast Ohio VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Telephone Operator. The Telephone Operator will function in the Patient Care Administrative Service.
Duties
Processing all incoming calls from multiple sources
Handling of sensitive and complex calls
Transferring emergency calls to the appropriate personnel in an expeditious manner
Contacting the appropriate personnel during a power outage
Protecting patient privacy
Following medical information regulations
Assisting in time of emergency medical responses
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm and 3:30pm - 12:00am

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/20/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: No time in grade requirement for a GS-4 position.
Applicants must be eligible under the VA Interchange Agreement, having served continuously for at least one year in the other merit system under this interchange agreement. All Title 38 Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) employees must have served in their Excepted Service position for at least 90 days in order to be eligible for a position within the Competitive Service.
Applicants who were previously selected under a Competitive Delegating Examining Unit (DEU) announcement must have served in their position for at least 90 days prior to being eligible for other positions within the Competitive Service.
In addition to the qualification above you must also have:
General Experience: You must have one year of general experience. General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the Telephone Operator. OR,
Education: You must have two years of education above high school. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (Transcripts must be submitted). OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. In order to determine a combination of education and experience, first determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for that grade level. For example, the position to be filled is a Telephone Operator, GS-4. An applicant has 8 months of qualifying general experience and 20 semester hours of college. The applicant meets 67 percent of the required experience and 33 percent of the required education. The applicant meets 100 percent of the total requirements and is qualified for the position. (Transcripts must be submitted).

Physical Requirements: This position does not require unusual physical effort. Position is sedentary but may involve some standing and walking to consult directories and manuals.
