About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located at the Guthrie Army Health Clinic located at Fort Drum, New York. The primary purpose is to perform direct patient care and care coordination activities such as referral management, order reconciliation, and activity tracking. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Duties

Take vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, pain level, height, weight, measurements). Perform all treatments and nursing procedures associated with patient care as directed, indicated, and/or prescribed. Prepare and administer prescribed medications through oral, rectal, subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular routes. Operate and monitor highly complex technical equipment. Provide patient education on health promotion and disease management. Prepare patients for procedures and assist with tests and examinations. Assist providers during diagnostic, therapeutic and/or minor surgical procedures by providing necessary supplies and equipment. Input data into the computer and retrieves information such as laboratory and diagnostic procedure results.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position may have a specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties may require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
• A favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) may be required for this position.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
• This position requires the incumbent must possess and maintain current LPN licensure in a state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirement listed below: Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing such duties as: measuring patient's vital signs, administering immunizations or medications via various routes, screening or updating patient medical records and performing routine procedures, such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), pulmonary function tests, wound care, audiograms and vision screenings. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service (GS-05).
