The incumbent serves as an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic responsible for installing, recognizing the cause of faulty equipment, and repairing, modifying and relocating equipment on various special-purpose air conditioning and heating units and/or systems that are frequently modified.

Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the WG-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
Install, operate, maintain, and repair special-purpose refrigeration and air conditioning components and systems and boiler heating components and systems, and includes the following:
Perform preventive maintenance to all types of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating equipment, such as oiling fan bearings and ensuring proper oil level in air compressor crankcases;
Inspect equipment to detect worn or damaged parts, tests for refrigerant leaks and proper functioning of controls, and proper operation of heating and air conditioning;
Observe and test for proper operation of refrigerant cycle for cooling, and diagnoses, tests and locates malfunctions on all types of heating and complex air conditioning equipment.
Assure proper operation, maintenance, and major repair of all refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and ventilating equipment in the Main Treasury and Treasury Annex Buildings

TIME AFTER COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
