Assists in upkeep of grounds, i.e. grass cutting, gardening, edging lawns, pruning, trimming trees and shrubs, landscaping, weeding, mulching, picks up fallen limbs, collects garbage and trash, picking up and loading on truck from several locations throughout Medical Center grounds.

Duties

The duties of the Laborer includes but is not limited to: Moves furniture and office equipment to various locations. Operates gasoline and diesel farm-type tractors and mowers with either towed or mounted auxiliary equipment. Uses rakes, shovels, hand trucks, brooms, mowers, shears, leaf blowers, string trimmers, chainsaws, edgers, and other powered and non-powered tools or equipment. Operates a government pickup truck to move material, equipment, trash, etc., at the Medical Center Performs other duties such as cleaning gutters, installing street signs, and window washing. Assists with excavating for new or broken pipes and sidewalks. Uses shovel and hoe to mix cement/mortar. Performs repairs on cracks in walks, roads, driveways, and parking lots. Assists painters with painting of curbs and with parking lot striping. Prepares surface areas by brushing and scraping off paint, setting and arranging plastic sheeting to collect paint chips, using pressure washers to remove loose paint and/or clean building exteriors, preparation and labeling of manhole covers, etc. Other tasks as required. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Physical Requirements: Exerts very heavy physical effort in operating equipment controls and performing tasks that require frequent lifting, bending and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds. Requires constant arm and leg movement, manual dexterity, and coordination of hands and feet to operate controls and drive vehicles. Operates trucks, tractors, engineering equipment, and lawn mowing and snow removal equipment and other motor vehicles that require constant alertness. Works from ladders, lifts and high places, crawl in close spaces, shovel snow, lift bags of salt, carry stretchers, push and pull equipment. May be asked to work extended hours due to inclement weather conditions. Working Conditions: Work may be performed outdoors, but typically not in inclement weather. Indoors, may be exposed to drafts, noise, dust, and direct. May be required to stand for longer periods on concrete floors. Chance of minor injuries such as bruises, cuts and scrapes.
