This Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Computerized Tomography) position is located in the Radiology Services Branch of the Crownpoint Healthcare Facility, in Crownpoint, New Mexico. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT), to perform a wide range of highly technical and complex and specialized procedures and examinations using the Computerized Tomography (CT) and Computerized Radiology equipment.

Duties

Performs computerized axial tomographic scanning of the head and/or body. Produces ionizing within a safe permissible range as to achieve quality radiographs; provides proper patient protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards related to radiographic examination. Serves the confidence and cooperation of the patient during examination procedures; assists physicians and radiologists in administering opaque media for all prescribed radiographic examination. Schedules patients for examination, evaluates request for critical or emergency procedures and adjusts schedule to accommodate patients of a higher priority. Receives patient, explains procedures and transfers patient to table for examination. Explores methods or procedures, positions patient and makes the exposures necessary for requested examination. Assists in quality control activities, which include but are not limited to making minor adjustments to equipment such as setting up step wedges and when necessary changing transverse length adjusters. Performs daily required calibration tests and recording appropriate equipment errors in the log. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and contacts appropriate CT service engineer. Practices sterile technique and prevents cross-contamination in various examinations. Ensure that sterile supplies, contrast materials catheters and other required equipment are present and laid out. Maintains patient records, x-ray file folders, check out files, quality assurance records, current operating policy manuals and other materials as necessary to insure adequate patient treatment and referral as necessary. Assists in keeping repair and maintenance records of the radiographic unit. Performs computerized radiology within department as needed.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer Radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements: (l) Persons employed by the Federal Government as Radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes Radiologic procedures to others. (2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as Radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- Certification: All applicants must be certified in general Radiologic Technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R). (A copy of your ARRT certification must be submitted with your application) Advanced ARRT Certification is required for Computed Tomography (CT): Advanced certification indicates that the technologist has demonstrated specific competency in the appropriate specialty and has taken and passed the designated examination. (A copy of your ARRT advanced certification must be submitted with your application). Computed Tomography (CT): This specialty modality requires specific knowledge of cross sectional human anatomy and its application in spiral, and/or, multi-slice computer tomography, inclusive of 3-D reconstruction scans, including drainage, biopsies, and peripheral vascular examinations. The technologist requires specific knowledge and training in the location, appearance, and function of the various major and minor systems susceptible to radiological illumination; to interpret the examination request accurately; to understand the functioning and inter-relationship of the various organs; to use the methods and techniques which will identify organs appearing on the digital display monitor, or on film, and the various stages of the examination to judge the acceptability of the image and/or scan for diagnostic use and to emphasize the aspects of particular interest to the physician. This subspecialty requires advanced ARRT certification. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience in the operation of diagnostic radiology equipment under the direction of radiologists or other medical officers to produce radiographic studies used in medical diagnosis and treatment. Performing all Diagnostic Radiologic, Bone Density and Computed Tomography examinations. Perform invasive procedures and utilize sterile techniques. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
