General Information About The Position This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service. Salary: GS-07: $46,696 (Step 1) to $60,703 (Step 10) GS-08: $51,713 (Step 1) to $67,231 (Step 10) GS-09: $57,118 (Step 1) to $74,250 (Step 10) NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

As an Electronics Technician within the St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

Qualifications

For GS-07: Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-07 level: One year of appropriate professional experience that is equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service. Examples of experience may include: (1) participate in marine geophysical surveys (single-beam, multibeam, seismic, and sidescan sonar) aboard small boats and/or ocean-going research vessels, (2) troubleshoot, maintain, and operate marine geophysical equipment and instrumentation, (3) analyze, process and archive geophysical and GPS data using state of the art software (such as Hypack, Fledermaus, Caris, POSPac, Waypoint-GrafNav, and SonarWiz), (4) possess knowledge of coastal environments and processes in order to distinguish between artifacts within the bathymetry processing software applications. Is, or can be, certified in SCUBA. **OR 2-years of progressively higher level graduate education (36 semester hours, 54 semester hours) leading to a master's or equivalent degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or engineering technology or other directly related field of study if it provided the knowledge, skill and abilities necessary to do the work of the this position. **OR A combination of successfully completed graduate level education, as described above, and professional experience, as described above. For GS-8: Applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-08 level: One year of appropriate professional experience that is equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. For GS-9: Applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-09 level: One year of appropriate professional experience that is equivalent to at least the GS-08 level in the Federal service. Examples of experience may include: (1) participate in marine geophysical surveys (single-beam, multibeam, seismic, and sidescan sonar) aboard small boats and/or ocean-going research vessels, (2) troubleshoot, maintain, and operate marine geophysical equipment and instrumentation, (3) analyze, process and archive geophysical and GPS data using state of the art software (such as Hypack, Fledermaus Caris, POSPac, Waypoint-GrafNav, and SonarWiz), (4) assist in planning, organizing and executing a limited project involved in the development of a system with performance characteristics requiring solution of both design and operational problems with responsibility for time, materials, cost, safety and performance requirements, and (5) possess knowledge of coastal environments and processes in order to distinguish between artifacts within the bathymetry processing software applications. Is, or can be, certified in SCUBA. **OR 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or engineering technology or other directly related field of study if it provided the knowledge, skill and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. **OR A combination of successfully completed graduate level education, as described above, and professional experience, as described above. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
