You will serve as a Mechanical Engineer in the Weapons in-service Engineering Branch, of the Weapons Systems Engineering Division with the In-Service Engineering Department of Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Keyport Division (NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV KEYPORT WA).

Duties

Yow will be responsible for project leadership, technology evaluation, acquisition, and transitioning systems from technology development to life cycle maintenance with an emphasis on continuous improvement in supportability and reliability. You will reduce complex objectives and plans into achievable tasks and provide advice and oversight to team members while providing feedback to programmatic and technical leadership. You will solve complex engineering or scientific problems in which past precedents do not apply due to the newness or uniqueness of design, changes in regulations, and complexity of programmatic needs. You will utilize expertise in established maintenance processes and intermediate and depot levels of maintenance and serves as a consultant regarding maintainability and sustainment of undersea weapons systems. You will serve as a subject matter expert concerning technology development and history of torpedo propulsion systems including lithium boiler energy sources and associated after-body components. You will coordinate with headquarters, laboratories and contractors to assure that work is done, technical problems are solved as a liaison. You may be required to serve as government representative or provide government oversight to contractor tasking, test events, or acquisition milestones.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional Engineer providing technical leadership or project management to an engineering team, division or organization in the execution of research, development, or test and evaluation (RDT&E) efforts related to torpedo system development and maintenance. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
