About the Position: Position is lcoated at the US Army Combined Arms Center, Officer of the Inspector General, Fort Leavenworth, KS. NOTE: This position is a developmental position and may be filled at the GS-9 or GS-11 level. The incumbent may be non-competitively promoted pending time-in-grade requirements and demonstrated ability to perform the next level/grade duties. The full performance level for this position is GS-11.

Duties

As an Inspector General (IG), you will perform duties to include but not limited to the following: Conduct inquiries or investigations as directed by appropriate authorities into allegations of mismanagement, fraud, waste or abuse, improper conduct, abuse of privileges or power, etc. Participate in the planning and conduct of compliance, systemic and follow-up inspections of Fort Leavenworth and its subordinate organizations and other activities that are under the jurisdiction of the Command. Receive, process, analyze, and respond to incoming complaints and/or requests for assistance emanating from any source including military, retirees, contractor personnel, etc., assigned to Fort Leavenworth activities worldwide. Enter data and synopsis of complaint in the Inspector General Network and prepare trends analysis and inspection reports. Provide continuity of office policies and procedures to include SOP, files, references, and reports.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance throughout the duration of employment.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY), approximately 10% of the time.
  • Must successfully complete a three-week U.S. Army Inspector General Course within 90 days of employment for continued employment.
  • Must take the Inspector General's oath of office.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain U.S. Army Inspector General School Certification.
  • Must re-certify as an Army Inspector General every five (5) years.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). -OR- Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Criminal Justice, Paralegal, and Legal Studies or other related field. NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts. GS-11 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) conducting inquiries or investigations on allegations and complaints and 2) determine cause of problems, identify appropriate solutions and recommend corrective action. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). -OR- Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Criminal Justice, Paralegal, and Legal Studies, or other related field. NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
