This position has full responsibility for administering all aspects of the local initiative to support the health and well-being of employees. This involves assembling and coordinating the activities of a diverse planning team of health professionals and representatives from various services who will assist the coordinator in planning and implementing educational opportunities, wellness activities, and programs for employees. Duty Location: Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw, MI.

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties include, but are not limited to: Establishes and chairs the Employee Whole Health Committee; Assembles a diverse planning team of interdisciplinary health professionals and representatives from various services within the medical center including labor partners; Conducts needs assessment(s) of employees to determine program needs and interests; Collaborates with other services on the assessment of the health needs of employees; Develops training materials for staff educational needs; Implements use of available individual health assessments to determine employee wellness strengths and opportunities and tracks employee improvement and goal attainment as appropriate; Creates a personalized health plan with employees who desire one by exploring the employee's mission, aspiration and purpose; Models healthy behavior and provides support and encouragement to employees as it relates to behavior change; Promotes the Employee Whole Health program to all employees; Writes proposals for annual funding opportunities; Performs other duties as assigned. Basic Requirement: You must meet one of the following three Individual Occupational Requirement options for this position. If/when using education to qualify, whether fully or partially, you MUST provide transcript(s) at the time of application that state(s) a degree was conferred in the appropriate field. A bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in behavioral or social science or related disciplines appropriate to this position. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR At least four (4) years of appropriate experience in a position that demonstrates you have acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. NOTE: Your experience must be fully documented in your resume and must include job title; duties; month & year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. OR A combination of education and experience that provided you with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. In addition to courses in the major and related fields, a typical college degree would have included courses that involved analysis, writing, critical thinking, research, etc. These courses would have provided you with skills and abilities sufficient to perform progressively more responsible work in the occupation. Therefore, creditable experience should have demonstrated similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the work of the occupation. NOTE: Transcripts are required, and your experience must be detailed in your resume. In addition to meeting one of the Basic Requirement above, you must also meet one of the following minimum qualification requirements: Specialized Experience: You must possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal Service (GS-9) that has given you the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a GS-11 Social Science Program Coordinator. Specialized experience is experience that provided knowledge of principles, techniques, and practices of a whole health program to plan and perform a wide range of activities related to the planning, development, and implementation of a whole health program; experience that provided knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of health education and health promotion to plan and perform a wide range of activities related to the development, implementation, and evaluation of a whole health program; and experience that provided knowledge of skill in using a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods for the assessment and improvement of program effectiveness. OR Education Substitution: You may substitute specialized experience with education if you have a Ph.D or have successfully completed 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. This education must have been obtained at an accredited college or university. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. OR Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of education and experience may also be qualifying if you have an equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience, as described above, which meets the total experience requirements for this grade level. NOTE: Your experience must be documented in your resume and transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Budget AdministrationComplianceCustomer ServiceProject Management IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: While some of the work is sedentary including researching, writing, program planning and data analysis, the position will have periods of extensive walking and movement throughout the healthcare system, prolonged standing, and transporting light to medium weight objects. The Employee Whole Health coordinator will also be required to travel between sites (CBOCs and outlying clinics) encompassed in the healthcare system.
