About the Position: The Walla Walla District US Army Corps of Engineers is comprised of motivated and talented employees providing the very best engineering services for communities in the Pacific Northwest. The District helps manage local water resources for navigation, flood damage reduction, disaster assistance, hydroelectric power generation, and other natural and heritage areas.
Duties
Develop detailed civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, and/or electrical contract drawings from basic instructions such as specifications, preliminary drawings, design criteria, and design analyses of engineers.
Make detail drawings of features which are of common and recurring nature.
Detail drawings for systems and infrastructure of navigation locks, hydropower facilities, and passage and survivability measures for fish.
Utilize CAD systems to develop, adapt, and readapt working drawings, charts, and tables provided by engineers.
Create new files, details, prints at any scale, and manipulate files.
Create As-Constructed drawings from marked up drawings provided by a contractor upon completion of construction.
Checks drawings prepared by others, shop drawings, as-builts prepared by contractors, and plans prepared by A/E's for conformance with standards, specifications and like considerations.
Coordinates individual assignments with technical units assigned the lead on major features of the project.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-4 General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience (1) in any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity using computer-aided software to create drawings or to depict objects/features AND six months of specialized experience which includes technical work in drafting. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03).
OR
Education: Two years of education above the high school level that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. At least 3 of the 12 semester hours must have been in drafting.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages.
GS-5 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using computer-aided software to create engineering drawings or to depict objects/features. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. At least 6 of the 24 semester hours must have been in drafting.
GS-6 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience using computer-aided drafting systems to update basic to complex engineering drawings for projects focused on civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, and/or electrical designs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
GS-7 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience using computer-aided design to produce basic engineering drawings from sketches for projects focused on civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, and/or electrical designs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
GS-8 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience using computer-aided design to produce complex engineering drawings from sketches for projects focused on civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, and/or electrical designs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted for grades 6,7,and 8.
