Position serves as Senior Audiologist in the Audiology Unit of the Kayenta Health Center, a 13 bed inpatient short stay facility with associated outpatient clinics serving in excess of 20,000 patients. Patients are referred to Audiology Clinic from area schools and hospitals and outpatient clinics. Patient case load consists primarily of Navajo Indians of all age groups. Many elderly patients speak little or no English.

Duties

This position is located at Kayenta Health Center, Audiology Unit, Kayenta, AZ. The incumbent: Performs the full range of Audiology Services. Conducts hearing evaluation and related tests using modern computerized equipment. Tests commonly performed include: Air Conduction and Bone Conduction Tests, Sisi Test, SRT Discrimination, Tympanograms with acoustic reflect, and Auditory Brain Stem Evoked Response. Interprets the findings of hearing evaluation tests. Explains these findings to the patient, patient's family and referring physician. Develops plans to reduce hearing deficits. Evaluates patient need for hearing aids, and where appropriate, fit person to ear mold. Determine proper hearing aid for the patient, and instructs patient in its use. Orders and dispenses hearing aids. Maintains inventory of hearing aids according to government policies. Performs minor repairs and arranges for more extensive repairs via manufacturer. Requisitions equipment, arranges for calibration and test equipment. POSITION IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED - the vacancy will close when a selection is made. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: A graduate or higher level graduate degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice. Your education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: A full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Audiology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Independently selecting, administering and interpreting a full range of consultative and diagnostic Audiology procedures for patients of all ages. Unsupervised, independent completion and analysis of diagnostic audiology including otoscopy, tympanometry, acoustic reflex testing, otoacoustic emissions testing, auditory brainstem response evaluations (sedated and natural sleep). Real ear auditory response verification, conventional and bone conduction hearing aid evaluations, fitting, and follow-up. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Position is OPEN UNTIL FILLED - the position may close earlier than the current closing date.
