About the Position: Serves as a Shift Supervisor for the Security Guard force assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations. Expected to exercise alertness, tact and integrity; ability to make sound judgments in areas not clearly defined; ability to learn and to apply regulations and guidelines relating to protection and security systems; ability to exercise discretion and judgment when investigating situations and conditions which vary from the normal.
Duties
Serves as Shift Supervisor who exercises direct supervision of the activities of a guard force shift consisting of subordinate Security Guards at lower levels.
Prepares management reports as required, administers annual/sick leave program, stimulates management-employee communications.
Plans assigned work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
Conducts daily guard mount to ensure proper accountability of all sensitive items weapons, equipment, and personnel appearance.
Manages a guard workforce to provide maximum security measures against theft, fire, accident, pilferage, trespass, sabotage, or espionage.
Ensures guard force understands their immediate role in protection of government and personnel property.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
- In accordance with (IAW) Army Regulation (AR) 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
- IAW AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019R Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing. Drug testing designated position. Individual agrees to submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis, in accordance with (IAW) AR 600-85.
- Shift work is required. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Incumbent proficient in use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass initial qualification, and qualify semi-annually thereafter in use of assigned firearms (Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.)
- Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Standard for medical exams are prescribed in AR 190-56 The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the PAT requirements as outline is Army Regulation 190-56 The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program.
- Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
- Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
- Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Managements (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal Service which includes (1) working with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that is involves direct supervision of guard force shift consisting of subordinate security guards; (2) planning work to be accomplished by subordinates as such setting and adjusting short-term priorities and prepares schedule for completion of work; AND (3) making daily assignments to ensure that guard coverage provides maximum security measures against theft, fire, accident, pilferage, trespass, sabotage, or espionage. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
