This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties

At the GS 11 level, the following clinical activities are expected: Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and evaluation, using the most current procedures and instruments consistent with the ethics and standards of the profession. Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including individual and group psychotherapy, psycho-educational programs, and support groups; will provide interventions with a special emphasis on those which are evidenced based and which follow the psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery models; II. Knowledge Skills and Assessments. Knowledge of, and ability to apply, a wide range of professional psychological theories and assessment methods to a variety of patient populations, with special emphasis on patients diagnosed with a chronic and serious mental illness. Able to provide psychological assessment, psychotherapy, and psycho-educational programs for complex, acutely disturbed day hospital and inpatient veterans with supervision by a licensed psychologist. Ability to develop coherent treatment and intervention strategies, especially those consistent with the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Models with the supervision of a licensed psychologist. Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures into on-going clinical practice with a licensed psychologist. - Growing knowledge of clinical research literature, especially as applied to psychological evaluation and interventions, and to the psychosocial and recovery models to address dysfunctions present in those patients diagnosed with chronic and serious mental illness. Ability to participate in a clinical team, adding to the delivery of the highest quality of patient care by applying the knowledge and skills unique to the discipline and practice of Clinical Psychology with supervision of a licensed psychologist. At the GS 12 level, the following clinical activities are expected in addition to the GS11: Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures into on-going clinical practice with a licensed psychologist. Growing knowledge of clinical research literature, especially as applied to psychological evaluation and interventions, and to the psychosocial and recovery models to address dysfunctions present in those patients diagnosed with chronic and serious mental illness. Ability to participate in a clinical team, adding to the delivery of the highest quality of patient care by applying the knowledge and skills unique to the discipline and practice of Clinical Psychology with supervision of a licensed psychologist. At the GS 13 level, the following clinical activities are expected in addition to the GS11 & 12: Provides a full range of diagnostic services, including general psychological assessment for the assessment of basic cognitive functioning, current emotional status and/or personality structure, screening for substance abuse/chemical dependency and determination of the presence or absence of diagnostic criteria per DSM and ICD nomenclatures. Provides appropriate psychotherapeutic service, or other psychological intervention, to guarantee the highest quality of psychological care, with a particular focus on Veterans with symptoms of disorders associated with their military service. Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including individual and group therapeutic services, psycho-educational instruction, and consultation with families; knowledge and skills in evidence-based psychotherapies (EBP's) and/or willingness to be trained in EBP's recognized by Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention (OMHSP) is preferred. Will serve in a collaborative role with the mental health and primary care staff members of the CBOC to provide psychological services to Veterans identified as appropriate for such services. Will address all areas of a Veteran's functioning relevant to psychological services, including functioning which might relate to broader health care issues (e.g. adherence to medical treatment, lifestyle changes in support of improved health, etc.). Qualifications

Grade Requirements. This section is only to outline the grade determinations used for initial grade placement upon selection and will not be used for minimum qualifications. These grade determinations can be reviewed in VA Handbook 5005, Chapter II, Appendix G18, Psychologist Qualification Standards. Staff Psychologist, GS-11 (Entry Level) Experience. None beyond the basic requirements. Staff Psychologist, GS-12 (Developmental Level) Experience. At least one year of experience as a professional psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11). Psychologists who are not licensed must practice under the supervision of a licensed psychologist but with less intense supervision than at the GS-11 grade level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: 1. Knowledge of and ability to apply a wide range of professional psychological treatments or assessment methods to a variety of patient populations. 2. Ability to design and implement effective treatment strategies. 3. Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures. 4. Ability to conduct research activities, such as designing and implementing clinical research projects (staff psychologists with specified research job duties). 5. Ability to perform basic research tasks of scholarship and research execution within the context of an established research team, including research participant relations, research documentation, data acquisition, maintenance, and collaboration. Staff Psychologist, GS-13 (Full Performance, Level) Experience. At least two years of experience as a professional psychologist, with at least one year equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: 1. Knowledge of, and ability to apply, professional psychological treatments to the full range of patient populations. 2. Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health. 3. Knowledge of clinical research literature.
