The Health Technician for Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Services (PMRS) provides logistical and administrative support for special programming within the rehabilitation services department. Works within the assigned station within the PMR service of North Florida/South Georgia. Must possess knowledge of scheduling guidelines, myhealthyvet, supply, and logistical processes, as it supports physical medicine and rehabilitation physician staff during diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Duties

Major Duties Include (but not limited to): Answering and directing phone calls. Maintaining files and records. Using a computer to perform administrative duties. Using techniques to appropriately de-escalate disruptive patients. Scheduling patient appointments, tests, and procedures. Performing blood glucose testing. Setting up patient examination rooms while adhering to infection control procedures. Orthotic & Prosthetic Fabrication. Assist Orthotist Prosthetist with patient care Designated Drug-Testing Position: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for AD-Hoc telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/18/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Individual Occupational Requirements Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Perform reception duties by assisting visitors to the office. Perform simple treatment procedures such as changing sterile dressings, applying slings or bandages, taking and recording vital signs. Instruct patients and families the requirements of home self-care for injuries or ailments. Observe patients and reporting changes in condition (deviation in color, pulse, respiration, temperature, and blood pressure). Interview patients to document complaint, medical history, and personnel information, placing information into electronic patient medical records. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying supplies and equipment and other items. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work may require assistance in moving or in lifting wheelchair patients.
