You will serve as a AIR CONDITION EQUIP MECH in the Facilities Maintenance Division of MCRD ERR PI SC.

Duties

You will inspect commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment for condition and operation. You will use tools and test equipment (e.g., acetylene torch, ammeters, refrigeration gauges, electronic leak detectors, vacuum pump, hydraulic press, micrometers) to repair industrial or commercial refrigeration and air conditioning systems. You will report hazards, malfunctioning equipment, damaged materials, or other situations that may impact work operations or the safety of others. You will identify material (e.g., stainless steel, copper, galvanized, plastic, pot metal) to use in piping liquids or gases under different pressures and corrosive environments. You will plan and lay out work for installation of refrigeration, air conditioning, or heating systems in industrial facilities. You will troubleshoot large commercial or industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems or equipment (e.g., gear, reciprocating, centrifugal, rotary pumps) to locate possible malfunctions.

  • You will be required to possess hand tools to work in the trade.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Physical Effort: Makes new installation and repairs from ladders, scaffolding, man lifting equipment, etc. Works on of buildings and where the systems and equipment are in hard to reach places. Requires standing, stooping, bending, knelling, climbing and working in cramped and tiring positions. Subjected to extreme temperature changes when required to work in freezers and hot attics. Frequently handles, lifts and carries, parts and machinery weighing 50 pounds or more. Working Conditions: Spends much time out of the shop in other buildings and out of doors at time in hot sun, humidity, cold, rain, etc. Frequently exposed to refrigerants and other chemicals used in air conditioning and refrigeration. Exposed to electrical and high voltage, moving machinery, dust, dirt, stains, fumes, cuts and bruises.
