The Southern Arizona VA Healthcare Network is recruiting for an Informatics Dietitian assigned to the Nutrition and Food Service. The Informatics Dietitian are the subject matter experts responsible for NFS computer systems that focuses on food production and operation. This position participates in quality and process improvement data collection and oversees the food service staff training program.

Duties

The Informatics Dietitian is responsible for solicitation, evaluation and recommendation of COTS software, integration, training and alignment of technology functions throughout the section. The Informatics Dietitian works in collaboration with the NFS management team, supervisors, and staff in supporting NFS program goals and facility mission. The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Participating in the selection, implementation and evaluation of automated nutrition systems. Provides system support to include testing, maintenance, enhancements and problem solving. Overseeing automated information systems to support effective management of food operations and patient meal services. Monitors COTS purchased programs to ensure tracking of items, room service, full functionality, and budget control. Managing the technology for meal production, service, labeling, temperature control and satisfaction. Coordinating the selection, installation, training, use and reporting structure for the full range of technology used in the administrative section of the service. Maintaining/updating data base on nutritive analysis of food items served. Performing nutritional analysis of regular and modified menus. Maintaining and revising COTS and VISTA Databases, as well as any other NFS ordering programs for ingredients, recipes and menus as needed or required by changes necessitated by SPV product changes. Assures privacy issues are addressed with all systems. Overseeing all aspects of NFS training program related to menus and informatics. Train's personnel in various computer applications and security issues regarding the VISTA dietetic software package. Remains current on trend and technological/technical developments in the field of nutrition informatics and dietetics through continuing education programs and training opportunities. Provides training for new employees as related to policies and procedures related to informatics and menus. Updates training materials to reflect changes or upgrades to the system and provide education to staff. Participating in project teams associated with the development and implementation food service systems. Works with professionals/vendors in tailoring software to meet the needs of the service and to trouble shoot system issues. Identifies opportunities for COTS program for cost savings, operational effectiveness and patient satisfaction. Maintains and implements information security for all data files. Collaborates with OIT for mandated updates and downtimes within facility as well as VISN. Participating in organizational activities related to developing and managing other healthcare related technologies to ensure that nutritional care and nutrition standardized language concepts are an integral part of the system. Providing system support to include system testing, maintenance, enhancements and problem solving. Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday; 8:00am to 4:30pm, with occasional morning and late afternoon shifts as needed. Telework: Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education and Supervised Practice: (1) Applicant must have earned a bachelor's degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalent and fulfilled each of the following criteria:(a) Completed a didactic program in dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), formerly known as the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education (CADE).(b) Completed an ACEND accredited or approved supervised practice program. Supervised practice programs are post-baccalaureate degree programs that provide supervised practice experiences which meet the eligibility requirements and accreditation standards of ACEND, formally known as CADE. Completion of a coordinated program in dietetics fulfills the requirements of a supervised practice program. Time spent in a dietetic internship or supervised practice program does not qualify as creditable experience.(2) Individuals who have earned college and/or university degrees outside the United States and its territories also must have their transcripts evaluated by a foreign transcript evaluation service to determine if their degree is equivalent to a degree granted by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States. Validation of a foreign degree does not eliminate the need for verification of completion of didactic program, dietetic internship, or coordinated program requirements. The completion of ACEND didactic program requirements and at least a bachelor's degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college/university or foreign equivalent are necessary for eligibility to enter an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program. Registration/Certification. All applicants must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met. GS-7 Dietitian: None beyond the basic requirements GS-9 Dietitian: 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or education Master's degree from a regionally accredited university or college. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: Knowledge of various accrediting and regulatory requirements. Knowledge of virtual technology to provide nutrition care. Ability to deliver patient care using the NCP (e.g., assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation). Ability to apply evidence-based nutrition practices to improve patient outcomes. Ability to develop patient-centered goals. Ability to collect data for performance improvement studies. Ability to collaborate with stakeholders. GS-11 Dietitian: 1 year of experience as a registered dietitian equivalent to the next lower grade level, or education equivalent to 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited university or college in the field of dietetics or closely related field. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Skill in delivering patient care using the NCP (e.g., assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation). Skill in interpreting research to apply evidence-based nutrition practices to improve patient outcomes. Skill in developing patient-centered goals. Skill in analyzing data for performance improvement studies. Skill in collaborating with stakeholders. Ability to comply with various accrediting, regulatory and agency authorities. Preferred Experience: Relevant clinical nutrition healthcare experience References: VA Handbook 5005/154, Part II, Appendix G20, Dietitian Qualification Standard GS-0630, Veterans Health Administration. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-11. Physical Requirements: This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing and lifting up to 45lbs.
