Duties

You will diagnose, locate and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large, complex heating, ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVAC). You will disassemble and repair a variety of components including compressors, evaporators, condenser, cooling coils, air handlers, bearings, water control valves, air dampers, etc. You will utilize various trade tools, test equipment, and instruments to include: voltage, amperage, ohm meters, electronic refrigerant leak detectors, micron vacuum analyzers and pumps, electronic temperature gauges, and capacitor analyzers. You will perform maintenance, calibration, modification, installation, repair and replacement of analog and direct digital controls (DDC) systems and equipment. You will lubricate moving parts and replace air filters, v belts, electrical motors, pulleys, sheaves, bearings, fan shafts, etc.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR certification.
  • Incumbent must be able to become certified in Confined Space Safety, Backflow Prevention, and Refrigerant Recovery.
  • Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements for this position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 certification.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Applicants must possess a Universal EPA Refrigerant Certification. You must attach a copy of this certification to your application package or you will not be considered. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Interpreting instructions, specifications and blueprints to repair air conditioning and refrigeration systems; 2) Troubleshooting air conditioning and refrigeration systems operations to detect component malfunctions; and 3) Installing and repairing a variety of large commercial and industrial refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment.
