Duties

You will investigate new and innovative techniques for the design and development of 3D environmental characterizations and databases. You will assess environmental requirements for the given research project or geographical area. You will perform a regional or site specific geophysical synthesis. You will design and develop the 3D geoacoustic or geological data base. You will plan, prepare and execute field data collection.

Qualifications

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: This position requires research or operational experience in the area of geochemical, geological, sedimentological and geomorphological characterization of the seafloor and the development of 3D geoacoustic models, with emphasis on the application of those models to problems associated with Navy acoustic system performance prediction and acoustic model development or mine warfare/minecounter-measures. In addition to the Basic Education Requirement and the Selective Placement Factor, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05/10) or pay band (NP-02) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: (1) Assessing environmental requirements for the given research project or geographical area; 2.) Identifying, assessing and acquiring the required geological and geophysical data; 3.) Performing a regional or site specific geophysical synthesis; AND 4.) Desinging and developing the 3D geoacoustic or geolocation data base. Education

Basic Education Requirement:

A. Degree: that included at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.).
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

The following can be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualification requirements of this position:
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree
OR
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
a combination of graduate education and experience totaling 100%.
