About the Position: This position is located at the Naval Hospital in Twenty Nine Palms, San Bernadino County, California. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Plan sequence of operations and work steps for subordinates supervised. Train subordinates in proper work methods and use of equipment. Make regular inspections of work areas to check progress and cleanliness. Enforce safety, fire, and other regulations. Recommend appropriate changes in procedures. Comply with Navy Occupational Safety and Health Program (NAVOSH) and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) standards.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds is required.

Maybe required to work on ladders and perform heavy work such as scouring large size cooking utensils and moving heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in kitchen areas where steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably hot temperatures and humidity. The work area is well-lighted, but usually hot and noisy from food service activities. Worker is exposed to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units. There is danger of slipping on wet floors that have been recently mopped or where food has been spilled. The worker is regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units.
