You will serve as a Mechanical Engineer in the Ford-Class & Recovery Division, EMALS and AAG Mechanical Branch (BL11200) of the Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division of NAVAIRWARCENADLKE.
Duties
You will design new components and capture the design through modeling and drawing creation utilizing PTC CREO and/or AutoCAD.
You will independently act as the sole engineering representative when onboard a US Naval vessel, test sites, and manufacturing.
You will demonstrate technical experience within the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System and/or Advanced Arresting Gear in particular, the mechanical components and their functioning within these systems,
You will perform data stress (static and/or dynamic), fluid, and/or heat transfer analysis and use other tools for analysis such as but not limited to Mechanical, ANSYS, NASGRO, and ABAQUS,
You will develop design proposals utilizing the PMA251 Configuration Management Plan and demonstrated ability to brief proposals to leadership.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Use of mechanical equipment, high power equipment, heat transfer modeling and simulation; thermal test methods and analysis 2) Managing environmental design and testing for Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch Systems, 3) Evaluating and resolving Aircraft Launch Recovery Equipment and Aircraft Platform Interface hardware issues; 4) Analyzing design impacts towards other system concerns in regards to logistics support and 5) Counseling internal and external contacts on Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System applications and design.

Education
Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)

Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
