About the Position: This position is located at Edwards Air Force Base in Kern, CA. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. This is a DOD Demonstration Project position.

Duties

Plan medical standard activities for the SGP, as well as providing consultative services to the MTF on medical standard issues, medical standards training, deployment processing, and other Aerospace Medicine Standards related topics, as required. Provide ongoing consultant and advisory support to wing, base, and group executive staff concerning force health (e.g., medical standards, Physical Examination and Processing Program (PEPP). Document and report program compliance utilizing the Management Internal Control Toolset. Perform administrative quality reviews of Duty Limiting Conditions, physical examinations, profiles, and appropriate clearances before these documents are forwarded/leave the MTF. Interpret and apply appropriate medical standards to determine medical qualifications of active duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve, and eligible civilian government employees. Conduct comprehensive analysis of medical documentation for the purpose of obtaining medical waivers for aviators or other special operational duty personnel. Determine appropriate recommendations for unresolved or questionable problems and perform follow-ups.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Health System Specialist: General Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe three years progressively responsible experience, one year of which was equivalent to at least the NH-I grade level, which includes: utilizing various healthcare automated systems, scheduling, or rescheduling patients in a Medical Treatment Facility, and resolving problems that arise. This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NH-I). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages.
