You will serve as a TECHNICAL EDITOR in the Expeditionary Warfare Center of NAVAL FACILITIES ENGINEERING AND EXPEDITIONARY WARFARE CENTER.

Duties

You will prepare camera-ready copy in sophisticated desktop publishing packages (i.e. Design). You will check documents for completeness. You will coordinate preparation of camera-ready copy with contractors and printers. You will assist with word processing problems (i.e. drafts. including conversion from one software application to another (such as from Adobe Acrobat to Microsoft Word). You will plan and execute a variety of illustrative material for publication with artistic skill, proficiency in use or media and knowledge of printing production processes that are compatible with various art techniques. You will translate verbal descriptions into specialized visual media products (i.e., posters, charts, graphs. brochures, etc.). You will maintain sources of illustration and information such as special artwork manuals and other finalized projects to provide boiler plate or short notice products.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Selecting, organizing, evaluating, and presenting pertinent data; 2) Performing technical writing, editing, and desktop publishing of documents; 3) Revising documents in response to comments from internal and external agencies; 4) Ensuring that final documents meet format requirements; and 5) Verifying accuracy of information/data in reports.(Note: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for this position). Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09: 1) Maintain electronic and hard copy files of faculty publications; 2) Use desktop publishing technology (word processing, graphics, and publication software) to edit manuscripts for publication; 3) Review various documents (e.g., technical reports, status reports, proposals, guidance, highlights) to verify documentation terminology; and 4) Verify references and factual information to confirm accuracy of publications.(Note: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for this position). Education

Applicants that do not meet the specialized experience as described above may qualify with education or a combination of experience and education, as follows:

You have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree, or you have obtained an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled, or you have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to 1 year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.

" Education must have included a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical, or social science field(s), and at least one course above the introductory level in the field(s) covered by the position. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school."
