Performs program support functions, including specialized medical coding of Pathology reports, for the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (PL&MS) in a large tertiary care VA Medical Center with multiple sub-specialties. Performs work related to the acquisition and/or development of program information and resource materials and/or personnel to support the policy development and/or technical activities of an organization.
Duties
Program Support, Data, and Reporting
Schedules appointments, coordinates meetings and/or schedules conferences. Provides general calendar maintenance, clerical services such as maintaining calendars and recording appointments or arranging for meeting and small conference administrative details.
Prints and distributes daily OR schedule and prepares and distributes monthly On Call schedule in Lab, SharePoint and other departments. Provides general calendar maintenance.
Processes incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda and other forms of written communications, as well as patient materials (tissue blocks and slides).
Performs general program support work such as the collection, research and/or tracking of data and program information for a variety of programs within Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service.
Performs record keeping and billing for Laboratory Support for Research Studies, autopsy record keeping, hard copy file creation, and accessioning log in.
Monitors and reports time and attendance for a variety of employees in six T&Ls. Maintains time and attendance for commonly used pay plans and types of leave, or limited special pay situations.
Coding and Medical Terminology
Codes (SNOMED and/or CPT) source documents and enters data into the computer.
Assigns appropriate SNOMED and/or CPT codes to pathology reports based on knowledge and understanding of pathology terminol

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
Basic computer skills and keyboarding.
Basic understanding of Microsoft Office including but not limited Word, Excel, Teams and PorwerPoint.
Experience with organizing meetings and or conferences.
Drafting committee agendas and meeting minutes.
Preferred Experience: Medical Terminology
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
