THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a SUPERVISORY POLICE OFFICER, Position Description Number D2264000 and is part of the 190th Security Forces SQ Topeka, KS. Kansas Air National Guard.

Duties

As a SUPERVISORY POLICE OFFICER, GS-0083-08, you will exercise supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advise and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Select or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignments in consideration of skills and qualifications, mission requirements, and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and diversity objectives. Develop, modify, and/or interpret performance standards. Explain performance expectations to employees and provides regular feedback on strengths and weaknesses. Holds employees responsible for satisfactory completion of work assignments. Appraises subordinate workers performance ensuring consistency and equity in rating techniques. Recommend awards when appropriate and approves within-grade increases. Hear and resolve employee complaints and refers serious unresolved complaints to higher level management. Initiates action to correct performance or conduct problems. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: This position works on a 5/4/9 compressed work schedule that consists of a 5-day workweek, then a 4-day workweek (eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day and an SDO, Scheduled Day Off) to complete the 80-hour pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements. Telework: ELIGIBLE FOR SITUATIONAL TELEWORK ONLY, INCLUDING EMERGENCY AND PRESCRIBED "UNSCHEDULED TELEWORK"

Requirements

  • Kansas Air National Guard Membership is required. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Must possess a valid Kansas State driver's license prior to appointment
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • The work requires a valid driver’s license and the incumbent must be able to operate all Security Forces Vehicles and installed equipment.
  • Incumbent must be qualified in the use of required weapons, as the incumbent will be required to use firearms in performing duties.
  • Must obtain and maintain first responder training/certifications required in CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first aid on the job and maintain annually.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E1 through E6 Compatible Military Assignments: 3P071 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: In addition to have completed the security forces (SF) apprentice course must have an understanding of the basic principles and concepts of military security forces functions, laws, policies, regulations, rules, procedures, and methods. Also, must have general experience performing functions such as weapon systems and resource security, air base defense, law enforcement; and, if applicable for the position, experience in handling military working dog functions or combat arms functions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have least one year equivalent to at least next lower grade level and experience in performing practical security force activities in direct support of the military weapon systems and physical security; law and order; and area security operations. The work experiences are in law enforcement, maintaining law and order, preserving the peace, and protecting life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of military installations. Have general experiences in protecting federal property from hazards such as sabotage, espionage, trespass, theft, fire, and accident or willful damage and destruction. Experiences in securing crime and incident scenes; apprehending and detaining suspects; searches persons and property; and collects, seize, and preserve evidence. Experienced in conducting interviews of witnesses and suspects and obtains statements and testifies in official judicial proceedings.
