This position is a Fish and Wildlife Biologist, GS- 0401-11 working in Tucson, AZ, for the R2-Arizona Ecological Services Field Office.

Duties

As a Fish and Wildlife Biologist your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Plans, evaluates, conducts a wide variety of complex ecological investigations or inspections involving complex land and water resource development projects, proposals and/or license applications/renewals to determine their impact upon fish and/or wildlife resources and habitats and to ensure that legal standards and other requirements are met and implemented in a manner most beneficial to fish and/or wildlife resources. Reviews and/or prepares biological portions of environment assessment/impact statements or comprehensive resource planning reports to evaluate environmental consequences of proposed actions on Federal fish and wildlife resources of concern. Develops comprehensive fish and/or wildlife mitigation or management plans to insure conservation, preservation, protection, and enhancement of fish and/or wildlife and their habitat for a geographic area having a variety of habitat conditions. Evaluates biological data and Federal program or project operational data to determine the effects of those programs or actions on threatened or endangered species through formal and informal consultation procedures

Qualifications

Only experience and education obtained by 10/17/2023 will be considered. In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification. Basic Requirement: Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR A combination of education and experience that includes courses equivalent to a major, as shown in (a) above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualification [GS-11] One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-9 in the Federal service. Experience may include: researching the potential impacts of proposed actions to determine the effect on threatened and endangered species; (2) assisting in planning, conducting, analyzing, and reporting on complex investigations and assessments; (3) preparing and processing listing, assessment, and recovery plans ; (4) participate in developing and implementing of comprehensive fish and/or wildlife management plans; OR Completed three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR An equivalent combination of professional experience and graduate level education which together equals 100% of the requirements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
