This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Duties
The Selectee functions as a key member of the senior leadership team, actively participating in the development of overall management objectives and philosophies necessary for the attainment of optimum efficiency in providing health care to our Veteran population by:
effectively leading the clinical staff to achieve the facility mission and goals
is accountable and responsible to the Chief of Surgery for the coordination of clinical activities, clinical staff and administrative oversight
monitors and ensures medical staff compliance with agency regulations, medical staff bylaws, facility policies, Joint Commission (JC) standards, and other appropriate regulations
possesses a broad knowledge and understanding of health care policies, missions, and operating programs, and extensive specialized knowledge of health care management
develops and maintains good working relationships with affiliates and promotes the professional development of service's health care staff
promotes standards of clinical competence and conduct for staff which is maintained through: compliance with credentialing and privileging processes, monitoring and evaluation of clinical practices, peer review, consideration of clinical performance patterns in clinical privileging and other appropriate quality improvement activities
Clinical Scope of Assigned Duties
The Selectee spends part of their time providing clinical services to Veterans. These duties may include, but are not limited to, clinic appointments, conducting diagnostic evaluations, reviewing treatment plans from community care and answering consults. Maintains and promotes high ethical and clinical standards that are carried into decision-making processes. Specific clinical duties include: are, but not limited to:
Provides patient care in the Dental settings-as specified in his/her clinical privileges
Provides dental services as specified in his/her clinical privileges
Provides the patient with risks, benefits and alternative treatments and community connections
Dentists are required to be BLS certified
Participates in various hospital committees, department and hospital in-service programs and acquire CME's as required
Work effectively with patients, families, co-workers, and other health care professionals treating them with respect and dignity
Complies with information security policy and procedures

Administrative Scope of Assigned Duties:
Promote the development of health care professionals through counseling, mentoring, teaching and encouraging self-assessment
Provide an environment that provides patient care, educational activity, and administrative planning and evaluation based on integration and application of current knowledge
Establish mechanisms whereby facility employees, higher level administration, and other VA components are informed, in a timely manner, of clinical program developments that affect them
Take an active role as a management team member, providing advice and counsel in defining and accomplishing the facility's mission and goals
Effectively lead the clinical staff to achieve facility mission and goals
Represent the organization, internally and externally, in such a manner as to reflect positively on the facility and VA
Serve as professional liaison of the facility to other VA and federal facilities, the community, affiliates, media, congressional offices and constituent organizations
Maintain and promote high ethical and clinical standards that are carried into decision making processes
Promote constructive problem resolution in an environment of competing priorities

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Dentist Basic Requirements
A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~
Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~
Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
Preferred Experience:
VA Leadership and Supervisory Experience is Preferred

Physical Requirements: The work is not sedentary and includes standing, walking, bending, stooping, and some lifting, usually not more than ten pounds.
