You will serve as a SENIOR AEROSPACE ENGINEER in the F/A-18 MAINTENANCE, REPAIR, AND OVERHAUL (MRO) ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, OFF-SITES DIVISION, LEMOORE BRANCH of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will plan, coordinate and/or conduct advanced air vehicle engineering work. You will coordinate technical research of the most serious and complex air vehicle engineering issues. You will resolve conflicts among technical, logistical and administrative issues. You will define air vehicle engineering problems that require modifications or adaption of, or compromise with, standard guides, precedents, methods and techniques. You will identify, plan, evaluate and prescribe corrective action for air vehicles deficiencies/incidents of significant proportions reported through appropriate reporting systems. You will serve as a subject matter expert in structural repair design and/or structural analysis for the F/A-18E-F Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul - Engineering (MRO-E) Offsites Branch at NAS Lemoore, CA. You will provide guidance in the form of training, professional development, and mentorship for the MRO-E Offsites Division by working, reviewing, and possessing the necessary agency empowerment to directly release/approve work products.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Professional ability to apply engineering knowledge is defined as the ability to (a) apply fundamental and diversified professional engineering concepts, theories, and practices to achieve engineering objectives with versatility, judgment, and perception; (b) adapt and apply methods and techniques of related scientific disciplines; and (c) organize, analyze, interpret, and evaluate scientific data in the solution of engineering problems. Examples of specialized experience: 1) Serving as a subject matter expert in structural repair design and/or structural analysis for the F/A-18; 2) Professional engineering knowledge of the F/A-18E-F aircraft in theories, concepts, principles, standards, and repair methods.; 3) Demonstrating the ability to determine and/or execute actions for a wide range of technical assignments involving combinations of complex features; evaluate specialized processes and applications pertaining to the performed work, and the delivery of its design, products, or services; 4) Coordinating, organizing, and leading Team projects, and provide technical oversight and direction; 5) Clearly and effectively prepare, present, and evaluate plans, designs, reports, and deliver professional correspondence to the customer, senior engineering leadership, high ranking military officers, and executive level personnel. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
