The psychology technician is assigned to the Mental Health Service, Psychology Section. The technician is responsible for collection, tabulation, and maintenance of a database of psychological and neuropsychological tests. The technician will administer psychometric tests to patients and familiarize others with such tests as needed.

Duties

Administers and scores a wide variety of psychological and neuropsychological tests in a standardized manner, with sensitivity to individual patient characteristics Interviews patients or research subjects, obtaining relevant information in a standardized format Prepares test data summaries for psychological and neuropsychological patient evaluations under the supervision of a psychologist Assesses data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their specific needs. Collects, tabulates, and maintains the research database of psychological and neuropsychological tests Manages conflict and problems in dealing with the patients and family members constructively and appropriately Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/31/2023. Individual Occupational Requirements - Must posses experience that involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities of either humans or, under laboratory conditions, animals. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists. Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-08 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performing neuropsychological, psychological and psychophysiological assessments; documents findings; data input; knowledge of hospital regulations and standards; performs administrative assistance. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond graduate level education. Physical Requirements include walking, standing, bending, reaching, light lifting, assisting patients to and from testing room and section waiting area (Le., pushing wheelchairs) and carrying light items such as books and papers. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: CommunicationInterpersonal EffectivenessPsychology Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
