Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team in the Administrative Division of the United States Attorney's Office, Western District of New York. As a Human Resources Assistant, you will be responsible for providing a variety of clerical and technical assistance in support of human resources operations. Typical work assignments will include: Inputs classification related data into automated personnel and payroll system(s); Assisting with the development and posting of job announcements; Conducting new employee orientation; Inputs benefits information into automated personnel and payroll system(s); Conducts initial reviews of pre-employment background investigations; Maintaining a variety of personnel files; and Composing a variety of written documents utilizing various types of office automation software. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-6: To be eligible at the GS-6 level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level. Specialized Experience: is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position. Some examples of specialized expereince are: identifying whether employees applying for promotions meet time-in-grade requirements; reviewing existing and related position descriptions to identify additional similar positions; locating and retrieving model and standard position description; providing general information to employees regarding employee benefits programs; reviewing personnel action requests for accuracy, discrepancies, and missing information; and producing a variety of written documents utilizing varied and advanced functions in several types of office automation software (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite). To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
