This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is with the Army Reserve Aviation Command, Aviation Support Facility Olathe West located in Olathe, Kansas.

Duties

Fabricates, lays out, forms and installs a variety of metal surfaces and structural members for aircraft. Examines aircraft flying surfaces and supporting sheet metal structures to determine extent of repair using applicable technical manuals. Removes damaged aircraft structural members and installs replacement members including beams and formers. Plans and lays out work using applicable work practices for repair and modification of aircraft metal parts and components.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• THIS POSITION REQUIRES ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP AS A SOLDIER IN THE U.S. ARMY RESERVE (USAR).
• This position requires a Personnel Security Investigation.
• This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
• This position is subject to Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
• This position requires a medical examination prior to employment.

Physical effort: Makes repairs from ladders, scaffolds and toeboards and where parts worked on are in hard to reach places that require climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts items that weigh up to 20 pounds and occasionally may lift and carry items up to 50 pounds. Working conditions: Works in well-lighted but noisy shop and outside subject to heat, cold, and inclement weather. There is continuous exposure to disagreeable odors, smoke, and fumes. Wears protective masks, aprons, and goggles. There are dangers of cuts, falls, burns, and injuries from hand and power tools.
