About the Position: Serves as the secretary and principal administrative assistant to the Commander of a Dental Activity or Clinic Command responsible for multiple dental clinics or one large, geographically isolated clinic.
Duties
Receives a wide variety of telephone calls and visitors.
Screens incoming correspondence, determining that which requires commander's personal attention, responds to those which can be handled personally, forwarding the remainder to the appropriate staff member for action.
Maintains the Commander's daily calendar, scheduling appointments and conferences without prior clearance, assuring that sufficient time is allocated in view of the subject matter.
Reviews correspondence prepared for commander's signature.
Prepares in final form from written material, brief instructions pertaining to military and nonmilitary correspondence, narrative and tabulated reports, travel documents, personnel actions.
Plans, coordinates and arranges temporary duty (TDY) travel for the Commander and staff.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes receiving visitors, maintaining calendars, scheduling appointments, and reviewing and processing reports or documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
