Job opening: INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

Salary: $30 - 35 per hour

You will serve as a Industrial Equipment Mechanic in the Production Division, UEM Branch of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will disassemble and repair general industrial plant machinery and equipment. You will interpret and apply the requirements contained in technical manuals, shop directives, multi-view blueprints, and other documents in determining critical dimensions and key reference points. You will use various test equipment and measuring devices such as alignment scopes, verniers, micrometers, precision levels, transits, strobe tachometers, bearing bridge gauges, flow meters, hydrostatic testers, and vibration analyzers. You will reassemble and install the equipment, connect the power sources, perform operational and functional tests and make required adjustments in order to ensure proper operation of the entire system. You will use standard formulas, shop mathematics, trade theories, and industry practices. You will perform preventative maintenance in potable water and sewage pumping/lift stations.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work of an Industrial Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision performing duties such as: 1) Interpret blueprints, electrical and piping schematics or drawings to locate utility distribution systems underground and to determine flow direction; 2) Use various test equipment and measuring devices (ie., levels, feeler gauges, dial indicators, micrometers, voltage meters, tachometers, and calipers) to repair, adjust, and test machinery and equipment; 3) Inspect, clean, and make repairs to sewer lift stations. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
