The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Mammography). The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Mammography) will function in Radiology Service.
Duties
Compliant in new mammography standards and modifications to existing mammography standards and guidance authored by VHA, FDA, ACR, etc.
Ability to determine proper operation of system and acceptable performance based on QA standards and guidelines.
Knowledge of calibration parameters and how to make adjustments.
Acts as a direct liaison between the Women's Health Clinic and Radiology Service and all matters relating to the mammography program.
Ensures complete compliance and record keeping of the mammography section with all FDA, MQSA, TJC and VHS standards.
Knowledge of CPRS, Vista, patient medical records, diagnosis, test results.
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, recognizing unusual images, and determining proper positioning.
Ability to monitor patient during procedure and inform radiologist of changes.
Ability to send and review images in the PACS (Picture Archive Communication System).
Performs daily QC of the digital mammography system as required.
Maintains all aspects of quality management under the remote supervision of the Mammography Supervisor
Assist in FDA/MQSA Mammography inspections, in the absence of, or as a designee of QC Supervisor, LIP, or Chief Radiologist.
Assists with all aspects relating to mandatory inspections by FDA, MQSA, and VHA.
Ability to perform quality assurance/quality control tests and procedures as required by the ACR (American College of Radiology)/VHA and/or by regulating bodies.
Assists with all aspects of follow-up recordkeeping and patient correspondence.
Ability to schedule or provide support for the Mammography scheduling component.
Provides support for the Mammography section under the direct supervision of the Mammography Supervisor.
Contributes ideas and observations for constant improvement to this service, which is to provide the highest possible level of service to our Veterans.
Recognizes and responds appropriately to emergency situations.
Demonstrates willingness to act as a preceptor for students and co-workers.
Performs tasks related to mammography
Sets up the mammography rooms, making sure the required sterile supplies, biopsy needles, contrast materials or other required equipment are on hand and readily available.
Assists Radiologist with mammography procedures such as breast needle localizations and stereotactic biopsy.
Must have proficient knowledge of operation of 3D digital breast tomosynthesis.
Protects patients, co-workers and visitors from unnecessary exposure to ionizing radiation.
Inputs data correctly into computer to assure proper registration patient data and accuracy of workload statistics.
Inputs all information to complete a case into VISTA and PACS system when exam is complete. Includes proper equipment usage, technologist information, important clinical notes and any repeats.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable.
Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).]
English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and7407(d).
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Preferred Experience: 1-2 years of experience as an ARRT with advanced certification in Mammography, Experience in FDA/MQSA/ACR inspections, Experience in all aspects of Quality Control (QC), 3D Stereotactic Biopsy experience. Ability to learn and perform DEXA scans.
Grade Determinations for a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Mammography) GS-9:
In addition to the basic requirements above, the candidate must possess the following experience:
Experience: One year of experience at the GS-8 level or equivalent as an ARRT Certified Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) providing services in specialized areas of radiologic technology and/or general radiologic technology services.
Experience at the GS-8 level may include:
Checking systems for operation and assessing acceptable performance based on established guidelines,
Monitoring calibration parameters and making adjustments as needed
Monitoring a patient's physiologic changes during the procedure and keeping the radiologist informed, using tact, diplomacy, and courtesy in dealings with the customer base, patients, staff, family, visitors, and volunteers
Recognizing unusual images and determining proper positioning to best demonstrate areas of interest.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
In addition to the above experience applicants must demonstrate all of the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to balance the needs of patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures.
Knowledge of techniques for gathering relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers.
Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure.
Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography.
Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous methods and techniques and universal precautions.
Knowledge of pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients.
The full performance level of this position is GS-9.

Physical Requirements: Must pass pre-employment examination and designate drug testing portion. Work requires long periods of standing and walking and some bending. Must be able to push, pull and lift over 40 pounds.
