The Motor Vehicle Operator works under Facilities Management Service at the Muskogee, Oklahoma VA Medical Center. Responsible for hospital vehicles and equipment operations and will normally operate multiple Medical Center buses. Transporting patients, visitors, and employees from on station and off station/public pick up points on a regular schedule to the entrances of the Muskogee VA Medical Center and the Outpatient Clinics.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Transporting patients, visitors, and employees from on station and off station/public pick up points on a regular schedule
Operating large vehicles and equipment such as tractors or snow removal equipment, buses and transportation vehicles
Checking oil, coolant, hydraulic break fluid and all other fluids, keeping vehicle filled with gasoline, checking lights, horn, checking tire pressure and tread depth, and reporting unsafe conditions to supervisors
Operating 2-way radio communications unit and cell phones, maintaining communication between vehicle and Transportation Unit Base of Operations
Driving to satellite stations carrying mail, cargo, supplies from vendors, items of sensitive natures, medical records, etc., between Tulsa
Outpatient Clinic, City of Tulsa and the Muskogee VA Medical Center as directed
Delivering pick-up all station motor vehicles to and from area garages or GSA Motor Pool, for repairs and servicing as directed
Laundry delivery and pick-up to and from the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center
Knowledge of diagnosing mechanical issues is requested but not required
Work Schedule: Various shifts depending on the need of the facility and determined by the supervisor

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Motor Vehicle Operator must be in good physical and mental condition. The employee is subject to moderate amounts of reaching, bending, lifting. turning, muscular strain of back, shoulders, and amrs to assist patients and maneuver vehicles into tight spaces and loading docks and ramps. Employee occasionally handles loading and unloading of items weighing up
to 50 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds. Motor Vehicle Operator is subject to all kinds of weather conditions from hot (in excess of 110 degrees F), cold (minus IO degrees F), rain, sleet, heavy freezing rain, and snow while driving.
Vehicle cabs are normally kept warm in winter (65-75 degrees F.) and when the driver leaves
the cab to ,work, the temperature may be as low as -10 degrees F or below. In the summer,
vehicle cabs are hot (100 degrees or above) from outside heat plus heat from vehicle engine and exhaust systems. Employee is subject to work on slippery surfaces during the winter months and during rainstorms in summer months.
The Motor Vehicle Operator may encounter abusive language, combative passengers /patients
and other types of abusive behavior from passengers while in route between destinations.
Situations will be dealt with, as needed, at the driver's discretion and judgment. Some work
may be performed in the Medical Center. The employee risks are typical of a hospital
environment.
