About the Position: Serves as Senior Maintenance Mechanic with responsibility for overseeing the work of subordinate full-time workers. Responsibilities include the planning, assigning, leading by active participation, and reviewing a wide variety of maintenance, repair, and operational tasks at lake projects involving operation and maintenance of flood control structures, recreational sites, or other facilities.

Duties

Serves as senior maintenance mechanic, performing work in variety of trades in electrical, masonry, carpentry, plumbing, roofing, painting and mechanical trades. Such trades involving, but not limited to maintenance of dam control tower facilities, buildings and structures. Installation and constructions of buildings/structures, as well as modification and repairing of current structures and buildings. Operation of hydraulic systems, electrical equipment, machinery, mechanical tools, and motor vehicle operation: pick-up truck, skid steer, front-end loader, bulldozer, backhoe, motorboat, etc.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment, for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain all Corps of Engineers licenses associated with this position.
  • The Government has a Licensing Program which includes but is not limited to Dump Truck, Truck and Trailer, Crane, Forklift, and Construction Equipment.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a current Corps of Engineers motorboat operator's license including all requirements of the District Licensing Policy.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment.
  • Heavy physical lifting is required of this position. Incumbent must be able to lift objects weighing up to and including 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements of this position.
  • Where medical surveillance is required, incumbent must be able to pass all required physicals.
  • Incumbent is required to wear the appropriate uniform for this position. The maintenance uniform shall be worn in accordance with EP 1130-2-520 Chapter 7.
  • Incumbent may be required to perform wildfire suppression duties.

Duties include but are not limited to climbing ladders and steep stairways and working on steep and uneven ground. Incumbent must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds unassisted or up to 100 lbs with the assistance of one other person. Tasks requiring the ability to lift50 pounds while working alone include but are not limited to lifting and carrying a five gallon can of kerosene, lifting and carrying a 50 pound bag of wildlife seed, lifting and carrying a 5 gallon can of paint, cleaning liquid or hydraulic oil. Tasks requiring the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. with the assistance of one other person include but are not limited to moving furniture and lifting 80 lb. bags of cement. Working Conditions: Incumbent works in a variety of conditions. Work is completed on but not limited to scaffolding,high ladders or rooftops subject to dangers such as but not limited to falling, exposed to possibility of burns, cuts and bruises, broken bones or infections. Incumbent may work in inclement weather to perform duties including but not limited to surveillance of project, various inspections, boundary marking, special events, and emergency situations (respond to public accidents, drownings, etc.). Incumbent must be capable of working in conditions of dust, welding fumes, paint vapors and sandblast particles utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment for those conditions which may be heavy and uncomfortable.
