Duties

NH-01 -You will perform varied tasks consisting of complex sequence of standardized or prescribed operations. The assigned tasks require background knowledge and skills in using engineering methods. You will perform calculations applying standard formulas; search technical reports, publications, specifications and other sources to compile engineering tables, graphs and charts for use by engineers. You will participate in on-the-job (OJT) programs at a level commensurate with the student trainees' knowledge, skills and abilities. You will assist project engineers in documentation preparation proposed reviews, contract monitoring and test operations(aboard ships and land based test sites). You will interpret plans and specifications; apply and use data with consideration of the source characteristics; extract data from a variety of sources; and determine results not susceptible to precise, quantitative measures. NH-02- You will perform duties of a developmental nature in assigned series. Assignments are designed to orient, train, and increase knowledge in the engineering sciences, to problems concerned with testing a wide variety of systems and equipment. You will serve as an advanced student trainee, utilize full range of engineering concepts/principles, engineering practices/techniques of applied engineering sciences to perform research, design, development testing or maintenance on assigned tasks. You will participate in advanced phase of on-the-job (OTJ) training. You will apply judgment in the selection, interpretation, and application of relevant rules, standard procedures, or precedents. The problems and major objectives are usually defined at the time of assignment. You will receive selected assignments to develop the specialized knowledge and skills of an engineer, and assist senior engineers in performing various phases of research, design, development, testing, and/or maintenance on apparatus and equipment. You will provide assistance in performing computations and laboratory procedures to furnish experience in the application of principles, procedures, and work techniques in actual operating situations. You will define and assess alternatives and pertinent data relative to requirements and unusual aspects. You will support various data collection, data verification and validation, analysis, and technical report writing activities to support testing on assigned projects. You will interpret policy, procedures/methodology for systemic analysis of specially designated problem areas affecting assigned programs or initiatives, and ensure special projects conform to objectives and monitors their progress.

Qualifications

Students must be currently enrolled in a full-time academic program at an institution of higher education as defined in 20 U.S.C. § 1001. A full-time academic program is defined by the individual institution. Students must have completed at least one full year of their academic program prior to appointment. Students must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and making satisfactory progress towards the receipt of a bachelor's or graduate degree. At the time of application, students must provide proof of full-time academic enrollment and academic standing as well as a copy of their transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable). Prior to the start date, the student must provide an official set of school transcripts. Individuals must meet the qualifications and eligibility requirements throughout the duration of the appointment and are required to provide up-to-date transcripts (unofficial are acceptable) at the end of each trimester, semester, or quarter, which include grades for the previous term, unless requested more frequently by the supervisor or HR office for verification of enrollment and academic standing as proof of continued eligibility for participation in the program. Students who fail to meet and maintain eligibility requirements may result in termination. QUALIFYING EDUCATION:

NH-2:
Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree OR-
Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education
OR-
Completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education, or a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree

NH-1:
Completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study.

The required education must lead to a bachelor's degree with specialization in or directly related to the field in which the student trainees will receive training on the job. The degree of specialization in this field must satisfy on graduation the specific educational requirements in the qualification standard for the corresponding two-grade interval positions.
