The Transportation Assistant serves as the primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs. The position is located within the VA Central Iowa Health Care System and in Des Moines, Iowa.
Duties

Duties include but may not be limited to:
Performs work involving consult management, appointment scheduling and admissions scheduling.
Coordinates Motor Vehicle Operators schedule for efficient transport of Veterans.
Compiles and tracks data and statistical information in support of Veteran Travel.
Reviews documents, reports and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate.
Enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system.
Maintains automated system of program-specific date.
Communicates orally and in writing with individuals from various backgrounds.
Interacts with various other transportation services such as Emergency Medical Service (EMS), Volunteer Transportation Network (VTN), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VGW) and other transportation providers
Utilizes the Veterans Health Information System & Technological Architecture (VISTA), Computerized Patient Record Systems (CPRS) or SharePoint Consult/Request Tracking System in processing internal consultations.
Plans for, organizes, administers, and directs how the work will be accomplished for the Veteran Travel Program.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:30am-4:00pm

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires at least one year of experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to this GS-06 Transportation Assistant position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level. Examples of specialized experience includes processing claims; utilizing automated systems and running reports; and scheduling/coordinating travel/transportation arrangements. (Resume(s) must clearly support the duties and experience required for this position. We will not make assumptions regarding experience.)

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The Transportation Assistant will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. They are subjected to a high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever-changing demands due to program changes.
