Duties

You will use shop mathematics to layout, develop and manufacture repair parts for structures. You will use devices such as micrometer, depth gages, and feller gages, protractors, machinist scale, etc. You will operate shop equipment such as band saws, drill press, high speed routers, overhead hoist, sanders, heat cure ovens, electronic temperature controllers, heat blankets, heat tables, fork lifts, vacuum pumps.

Requirements

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the WG-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Plan and layout some repairs on aircraft and their components based on clearly described work orders, blueprints, manuals and engineering instructions. Assist with the repair, remanufacture, and fabricate high strength primary aircraft structures comprised of advanced composite materials. Knowledge of common composite materials such as aluminum, steel, fiberglass, wood, rubber, paints, adhesives, bonding tapes, catalyzed fillers putties, caustics, chemicals, hydrocarbons, acids, phenolics, foam adhesives, forms of high temp Styrofoam, and epoxy. Use of shop equipment such as band saw, high speed routers, sanders, heat cure ovens, electronic temperature controllers, and vacuum systems. Able to use devices such as micrometer, depth gages, and feller gages, protractors, machinist scale, etc. Some honeycomb carving will be done by hand.
