You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT OPS) in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES of NB SAN DIEGO.
Duties
You will use medical equipment (e.g., semi-automatic defibrillation device, cervical spine collars, back boards, hydraulic rescue tools) in providing emergency services.
You will instruct new firefighters on entry-level courses (e.g., Essentials of Firefighting in Fire Behavior, Portable Extinguishers, Self-Contained Breathing and Apparatus, or similar course).
You will combat fire or rescue personnel onboard ships in a dangerous environment (e.g., small passages, small compartments, confined or unventilated areas, in the proximity of fuel tanks, gun mounts, or highly flammable or explosive cargo).
You will direct the placement of firefighting equipment to ensure maximum utilization in fire control, aircraft crash, or rescue operations.
You will establish a safe perimeter around a hazardous material incident to protect self and others.

- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Leading firefighters in firefighting and rescue operations; 2) Directing and participating in practice drills and/or training practice for assigned crew in all phases of firefighting techniques and equipment maintenance and use; 3) Inspecting tests, and/or correcting deficiencies on fire protection systems; 4) Performing basic life support and noninvasive emergency procedures to stabilize patients. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for this position: Fire Fighter II (under NFPA standards adopted by DoD; Airport Fire Fighter (under NFPA standards adopted by DoD; Apparatus Driver-Operator for Pumper, Airport Rescue Firefighting (ARFF), and Aerial vehicles, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, and Fire Instructor I.
