The primary purpose of this position is to provide clerical support for operations of the Child Development Program to include preparing purchase orders and commissary orders, files maintenance, reservations, receiving calls, handling funds, ensuring children are signed in and out of the center properly and greeting visitors.

Duties

Performs clerical and administrative support of the office/organization. Assist in the Youth Center Programs. Uses multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents that often require complex formats, such as graphics or tables within text, editing and reformatting electronic drafts, and updating or revising existing databases or spreadsheets. Demonstrates proper work procedures, promoting teamwork and serving as an intermediary between the Director and front desk staff, while receiving telephone calls, greeting children, parents and visitors.

  • Full/part-time employees occupying direct childcare positions are eligible for discounts IAW DAF AFSVC/CC Memo, 30 Sep 22; first child 100% / each additional child 25%. Other assigned CYP and FCC personnel are eligible for 25% discount.
  • Travel and relocation expenses will NOT be paid.
  • Qualified typist test is required. The incumbent must have the ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM.
  • Must be able to obtain a health and food handler's card and successfully complete a SF-85 and a Tier I background investigation.
  • Must have certification or complete requirements for CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Position may require night and weekend work.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.
  • A physical examination is required for this position.
  • Position has "regular contact with children." IAW Public Law 101-647 Section 231, and Public Law 102-190, Section 1094, an FBI fingerprint and State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) Check will be completed on any person selected for this position.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, General Administrative, Clerical, and Office Services. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes providing knowledge of a body of standardized rules, procedures and operations involved in a Youth Programs atmosphere, performing standard clerical and administrative assignments that occur in the normal child development center, and resolving recurring problems; performing various office automation software processing procedures to generate reports and produce a variety of documents; exercising financial responsibilities including computing, collecting and recording fee collections; preparing various routine correspondence/reports using knowledge of grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and commonly used specialized terminology; maintaining files/ records and reviewing and processing mail. OR EDUCATION: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Air Force Child & Youth Program's regulations, procedures, and processes. Knowledge of general office administrative and clerical procedures to answer telephones, maintain files and office forms, order supplies, and general administrative guidance. clerical practices and office routines to coordinate the work of the office. Knowledge of PC's and skill in the use of various software to accomplish the administrative work of the unit. Ability to learn to use software specific to Child Development programs to record and retrieve data. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to plan, organize work, and meet deadlines. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
