About the Position: This position serves as General Equipment Mechanic involved in construction, alteration, maintenance and repair of the Missouri River Area Office project facilities and equipment.

Duties

Repair, overhaul, and maintain construction, marine, commercial and industrial equipment such as draglines, survey boats, inspection boats, tow boats, bulldozers, graders, sedans, trucks, outboard motors, tractors, compressors, generators, etc. Change oil and grease and lubricate chassis and body parts of vehicles. Perform and maintain record of required preventive maintenance program for multiple vehicles. Perform maintenance, repair or replacement of equipment. Perform carpentry, painting, plumbing, air conditioning/heating systems mechanical work, and concrete finishing work. Install, maintain and repair electric wiring systems and related equipment to include shop equipment, appliances, clocks, thermostats, fans, and electrical motors. Operate an automobile, pickup truck, and motorboat to accomplish assigned lot duties. Occasionally operates semi-trailer truck to transport equipment subsistence supplies, bulky and heavy items of construction materials.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • This position requires a pre-employment drug test and enrollment in the Drug Testing Program.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) boat operators license within 24 months of appointment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a state issued commercial driver's license (CDL) within 12 months of appointment.

I have the ability to perform some tasks to include adjust, replace, clean, and install a variety of parts, components, and accessories such as spark plugs, filters, radiators, bearings, springs, batteries, shock absorbers, wheel cylinders, starter motors, belts and hoses, mufflers, replace break shoes and starter motors, and other items of similar complexity. I can perform minor engine tune-ups, (diesel or gas) and adjust brakes. I can assist in the removal, disassembly, repair, and reassembly of engines and transmissions. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, crouching, and standing. Works on top of and under vehicles and equipment in cramped and awkward positions. Does strenuous work while standing, lying down, or sitting. Frequently lifts and carries equipment and parts weighing up to 50 pounds and puts forth similar efforts in pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Lifts and handles heavy equipment attachments and materials. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is inside and outside of buildings, in all kinds of weather, and occasionally on structures over water. Exposed to the danger of falls, vehicular accidents, and drowning. Subject to strains and injuries from lifting and maneuvering heavy tools, materials and equipment. Subject to cuts and abrasions. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors and the area is frequently inadequately heated. Exposed to dirt, grease, fumes, oils, dust, and noisy conditions. Subject to cuts, abrasions, eye injury, burns, electrical shock and broken bones. A life jacket is worn at all times while on deck.Assignment to duties other than those described above for a period in excess of 30 calendar days constitutes a misassignment and must be documented via submission of a Standard Form 52, Request for Personnel Action, to document such assignment. Failure to follow this procedure constitutes a violation of statute.
