About the Position: You will work in the Directorate of Quality Management.
Duties
Conduct inspections to detect adverse quality, trends, or conditions in work performance.
Execute conventional fact-finding inspections techniques.
Conduct inspections and evaluations at all states of work performance.
Execute recommended corrective actions to comply with work standards or applicable regulations.
Communicate orally to discuss reports and findings in the form of meetings and briefings.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Business travel up to 25%
- Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain and maintain within two (2) years, through the Association for Materials Protection and Performance, or equivalent certification as a Basic Coatings Inspector - Level 1.
- Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain and maintain within two (2) years, through the American Welding Society a Certified Welding Inspector certification.
- Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain and maintain within two (2) years, an NDT certification for Liquid Penetration Testing and Magnetic Particle testing and Certification in Nondestructive Testing - Level 1

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Assisting in site inspections to assure adequacy of work processes, methods, techniques, security and safety measures have been met, 2) Identifying inadequacies, process deficiencies, root cause analysis and requesting corrective actions AND 3) Assisting in preparation of summarizing results, and preparing reports or charts of inspection findings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07)
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or other fields related to the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
